Buddhadev says he is determined to carry on with the industrialisation drive in spite of all the "obstacles".

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee put up a brave front at CPI(M) state committee meeting in Kolkata on Saturday, saying he is determined to carry on with the industrialisation drive in spite of all the "obstacles".

"There may be obstacles and complications may arise, but we will go ahead with our industrialisation programme," he said. The Nandigram incident cannot derail the government's industrialisation drive and rhere will be no going back, he said.

The Bengal CM said several investment proposals for setting up industries were being received by his government and the state would march ahead "without any hesitation."

The state government initiative to promote investment and industrialisation in the state has come under a cloud following protest by local communities against the land acquisition policies of the state government.

Party sources said Bhattacharjee also stressed the fact that his Left Front government would lay equal emphasis on agricultural development, while making progress on the industrial front and had already set up an Agricultural Commission.

He said his government will stay focussed on development of human resources and on promoting literacy, universal education and self-employment schemes.

Former chief minister Jyoti Basu also attended the meeting. He underscored the need for maintaining Left unity "come what may". "It is the need of the hour to maintain Left unity in West Bengal," Basu said.
