HYDERABAD: An engineering student, who was walking on the railway track engrossed in hearing music on the cell phone, was knocked down by an MMTS train between Kacheguda and Malakpet stations here on Monday.As he had ear phones plugged into his ears, he could not hear the sound of the approaching train and was hit from behind. He died from severe multiple injuriesThe deceased, D Shanti Kumar (19), was studying B.Tech first year at Methodist College of Engineering at Abids in the city. Hailing from Sita Nagar in Sirpur Kagaznagar in Adilabad district, he was staying at a social welfare hostel at Nimboliadda, near Kacheguda. "This morning he was walking beside the railway track with ear phones plugged into his ears when a train hit him from behind,' Kacheguda railway subinspector of police Rama Rao said. Listening to music with ear phones plugged into ears makes one deaf to sounds around and also blind to the situation.It was the fourth such accident in the recent past and the second within the Kacheguda railway police limits. Kacheguda railway police received the information from locals around 10.10 am.Railway police suspect that the accident might have taken place around 9.30 am when there was much train traffic from the Kacheguda railway station.
