Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal on Thursday praised BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, saying that the latter has "created history" in terms of popularity.
"Modi has created history in terms of popularity. The people of the country have accepted him as Prime Minister even though the Lok Sabha elections are over four months away," the BJP leader told reporters in Mathura on Thursday evening.
During his innings as Chief Minister of Gujarat, Modi has shown that he is not only a sensitive and able administrator but also a visionary leader, Pokhariyal said.
"Only such an able person can overhaul the system that is in the doldrums owing to rampant corruption in the Congress rule," he said, adding that ten per cent of such popularity was visible for VP Singh prior to his becoming PM. The former Chief Minister claimed the Congress government in Uttarakhand "is on suicidal mode".
"Congress has no moral right to remain in power as its legislators are openly expressing their discontent against the government," he said. BJP, however, would not adopt foul means to topple the Congress-led state government, Pokhariyal said.
He was confident that his party would emerge victorious in Assembly elections in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Chhattishgarh and Rajasthan.
