THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Brining cheers to the nation, monsoon has advanced to some parts of south east Bay of Bengal and Andaman sea on Wednesday. Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of south Bay of Bengal and remaining parts of Andaman Sea during the next two-three days, a release issued by India Meteorological Department said on Wednesday evening. Satellite pictures show convective clouds over some parts of Andaman Sea, central and south Bay of Bengal and southeast Arabian Sea. “In view of strengthening of cross equatorial flow, persistent cloudiness and fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall, southwest monsoon has advanced on Wednesday into some parts of southeast Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea,’’ the release said. IMD had predicted monsoon onset over Andaman on May 20. However, advancement of monsoon over Andaman has no one to one relationship with the onset date in the state, which is considered as the gateway of monsoon. According to IMD forecast, state will get monsoon showers around June 1.
