Neemuch: Controversy surrounding Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama Padmavati takes a new turn every day, with the latest coming from Madhya Pradesh, where a journalist has been booked over a Facebook post.
Recently, the Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Bhupendra Singh had said that the Bhopal gangrape victim would be given a ‘Padmavati award’ constituted by the CM, for her courage and determination to bring her tormentors to book. Responding to this, journalist Jinendra Surana, who is associated with local daily Naividha in Neemuch, had posted an “objectionable comment” on Facebook.
Taking suo moto cognizance of the comment, Khargone Police booked Surana under Sections 117, 292, 505 (2) of IPC and 67 (A) of the IT Act. As the matter was started doing the rounds in Neemuch through social media, some unidentified men attacked Surana’s house in Shikshak Colony on Sunday evening.
Khargone Superintendent of Police, Kalyan D Chakravarthy said that the post seemed to have “malicious inspiration for sexual assault on women” and a team has been sent to Neemuch to arrest Surana.
Neemuch police has also started probing those who attacked Surana’s house.
Surana, on the other hand, deleted the said Facebook post soon after it kicked up a row. Surana could not be reached for comments.
The local wing of Karni Sena, too, protested against Surana at Neemuch on Sunday evening and handed a memorandum to the police, seeking action against the scribe for ‘insulting queen Padmavati’.
