Mumbai: Authorities in Mumbai are playing party pooper ahead of the new year's eve. They have come up with a list of new regulations that will make partying costlier.
Mumbaikars partying this Christmas and new year will have to shell out at least 25 per cent more as the city administration has decided to strictly enforce little known provisions of the Entertainment Tax Act on establishments hosting parties.
According to the new guidelines:
- Establishments will have to deposit entertainment duty ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 2.5 lakh depending on their size
- An additional 25 per cent entertainment duty will be levied on sponsorships received by the hotels
- Even restaurants that only have a special new year dinner package and no entertainment will have to pay entertainment tax
- All organisations will have to provide the collector with a list of members present for a party
- The organisation will also have to co-operate if government authorities come for a check and wish to videograph the party
With the implementation of these taxes, Mumbai's night life, which has faced moral policing by officers like ACP Dhoble, could suffer. Hoteliers say that in past three years more and more people have chosen to party at home.
With all the restrictive costs and regulations, many Mumbaikars seem to be planning only house parties this festive season. But to ensure a police-free house party, you will not only have to keep the music down but also get a liquor licence.
