New Delhi: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf may visit India in April and even attend the SAARC summit even though there were reports earlier to the contrary.
Pakistani media reported on Wednesday that Gen Musharraf was apparently reconsidering his decision not to attend the SAARC summit to be hosted by India and talks are on between the two countries to facilitate his visit.
However, it all depends on the progress in the peace process and the Pakistani President is reported to be keen to come only if there is a scope to take the peace process forward.
The Nation quoted Pakistani official sources to suggest that consultations were on between Pakistan and India to give impetus to the peace process and to pave the way for Gen Musharraf's visit to New Delhi to attend the 14th SAARC summit.
India has earlier extended an invitation to Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to attend the summit scheduled for April 3-4 after Islamabad reportedly said that Musharraf would not go to India till Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited Pakistan.
The Nation quoted diplomatic sources to say Gen Musharraf was of the view that his visit to New Delhi "would not be of much use" before any announcement on Dr Singh's visit to Pakistan. According to PTI, the Pakistani Foreign Office has dismissed the reports as "speculative".
The Pakistani newspaper quoted a source as saying that in case Gen Musharraf decided to attend the summit, it would give an opportunity to the two countries to discuss a possible solution to the Kashmir issue and other bilateral disputes at the highest level.
The New Delhi Saarc summit is seen as an important even as Afghanistan would be formally inducted as the eighth member of the grouping that currently comprises India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal and the Maldives.
