New Delhi: Rafael Nadal has beaten Andy Murray to enter the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.
The second seed beat 15th seed Murray 6-7, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 in a classic encounter.
Murray started well winning the first set but Rafa took the second. Murray came back to take the third 6-4.
But finally the Spainard came on top winning the next two to enter the quarter-finals.
This is the first time Nadal has entered the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.
He will meet Chilean Fernando Gonzalez to decide who goes to the semis.
However, the surprise package of the first Grand Slam this year has undoubtedly been Fernando Gonzalez.
The 10th seed stormed into the quarter-finals of the Australian Open with a win over James Blake.
The big-hitting Chilean demolished 5th seeded Blake with his great power and angled serves.
Gonzalez who had earlier disposed crowd favourite Lleyton Hewitt, needed just two hours and 18 minutes and 18 aces to beat Blake 7-5, 6-4, 7-6.
The Chilean, making his first quarter-final appearance at the Melbourne Park will play the winner of the Rafael Nadal-Andy Murray match.
Another seed David Nalbandian crashed out losing to Tommy Haas.
The German clawed back from being a set down to beat his Argentine opponent 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-3.
David Nalbandian who has never lost in the first round at Melbourne Park could not re-create his first round and third round magic of coming back even after being two sets down.
He crumbled after the first set against Tommy Haas. The 12th seeded German will now face the winner of the Tomas Berdych-Nikolay Davydenko match.
