The joint inspection by the PWD and Revenue Department officials has been completed along the 12 km stretch, informed PWD sources.The original plan was to widen the 30.2 km stretch connecting Karamana to Kaliyikkavila to 30 metres. The first phase will cover the 12 km stretch from Karamana to Vazhimukku.A GO on the revised alignment incorporating the missing areas would be released soon. Around 30.178 hectares of land would be acquired for the first phase.The District Collector had been appointed as the rehabilitation officer of the project.  Around 775 residential buildings and 1,495 commercial buildings have to be shifted for the project. The government has calculated an estimate of Rs 195 crore and Rs 95 crore respectively as compensation for this.In the puramboke area, around 1,735 residential and commercial buildings have to be removed for NH widening.  A sum of around Rs 45 crore would have to be paid as compensation. The fund requirement for land acquisition would be around Rs 500 crore. The cost for road work would be around Rs 160 crore. Taking the proposed monorail into consideration, the government had asked the PWD to construct medians of 3 m width. The government also gave instruction to construct pavements in minimum width so as to give more space to the carriageway.
