HYDERABAD: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday arrested five serving and four retired excise officials in Kothagudem for subverting the auction of liquor shops in 2010. The officials will be produced in the court of the second additional special judge for ACB cases in Hyderabad.  According to an official press release, ACB personnel stumbled upon this episode of graft while following up one of the 25 cases they registered on the basis of information they gathered from searches of liquor syndicate offices in December last year. While investigating the role of four excise officials who were allegedly hand in glove with a liquor syndicate run by Nunna Venkata Ramana, ACB officials came across another case in which excise officials were found to have subverted the auction of liquor shops in Kothagudem excise division. The arrested officials are: Y B Bhaskar Rao, the then excise superintendent of  Kothagudem; Harikrishna Swamy, Kothagudem assistant excise superintendent; A V Ramana Reddy, the then station house officer (SHO) of the Kothagudem excise police station; A Kishan, Palvancha SHO; B Srinivas Rao, Bhadrachalam former SHO; P Shyam Kumar, Burgampad SHO; Hari Baba Rao, Manuguru former SHO; Isthari, Venkatapuram former SHO; and Jaya Ram, Aswaraopet SHO. These officials allegedly manipulated the auction documents after the relevant authority had approved the successful bidders for 83 shops in 2010. Later, they added the names of other persons and subverted the auction process with respect to 64 shops.
