Bangalore: The Dhyanapeetham ashram of controversial godman Nithyananda in Bidadi wore a deserted look on Monday soon after Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda ordered his arrest and the closure of the ashram till the investigations are completed.
Ramanagaram police said, “We have received certain orders from the Chief Minister and will follow it. There are certain formalities that we need to complete before taking over the ashram. Since there are no orders from the higher authorities about restricting the movement of the ashramites, we cannot stop them from going out.”
Meanwhile, a number of disciples of the godman, mostly foreigners, left the ashram on Monday fearing that they might get into trouble. However, a few staunch disciples remained firm on the premises. The police were seen checking the inmates going out of the ashram. They seized a hard disc from a woman disciple who was trying to take it away.
The police have barred the entry of public into the ashram.
According to sources, the ashram is likely to be locked. Iron trunks, said to be containing money and some important documents, have been found in the ashram. Thirty cars, bearing Tamil Nadu registration numbers, are said to have gone to Dindigul via Kanakapura Road without any checks on Monday, the sources added.
Meanwhile, the 16 Karnataka Nava Nirmana Sene activists were given conditional bail by Judge V Pushpavathi on Monday.
