HYDERABAD: The report of the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) on the existence or otherwise of a tunnel with a treasure underneath the Naubat Pahad at the Vidyaranya High School will be out on Thursday. It was supposed to be made public on Tuesday itself but for some reason, it has been deferred. The State Archeology Department said further action would be taken only after studying the report.Director of State Archeology Prof P Chenna Reddy, who is on an official visit to New Delhi, said the findings of the reports would be made public on Thursday after his return. He dismissed reports in a section of the media that the NMDC report had confirmed the existence of a “structure” or a “cavity” under the Naubat Pahad.“I myself do not know the details of the study. We have to wait for the findings of the report,” he said.Ever since excavation began at the site on the school premises, the department has been widely criticized for its unscientific approach and following the advice of the Tourism and Culture Minister Vatti Vasanth Kumar, it had sought the help of experts from NMDC who carried out magnetometer survey and resistivity survey to study the possible existence of a stone structure or an underground vault. In the meantime, ICSE exams have started as per schedule at the school from Monday. With officials awaiting the NMDC report and stopping excavation, the examinations are going on without disturbance.A few constables posted on the site have barred the media from venturing anywhere near the site.
