The Biju Patnaik University of Technology Students’ Union (BSU), a body of students under the technical varsity, on Sunday said the decision is a violation of Lyngdoh Commission recommendations.Since the election to the students’ union was not notified, the cancellation on the basis that the ongoing violence was poll-related is uncalled for, BSU president Sukumar Gourab said. The varsity authorities, however, had called off the election on the grounds that it might hamper academic atmosphere on the campus.  The BSU also lambasted the decisions of the UU authorities to impose certain restrictions on second PG and cancellation of admission of students with criminal antecedents. “Nowhere in India can a student be barred from pursuing higher education.
