MALKANGIRI:  The teachers of National Child Labour Project (NCLP) schools here have not received their salaries for the last 10 months. Worse, they have not been getting their salaries in time for the last five years. The Ministry of Labour had set up 60 NCLP schools in the district in 2007 for rehabilitation and education of rescued child labourers. Forty of these schools have already been closed for lack of funds.Protesting non-payment of their dues and demanding regularisation of their jobs, the hapless NCLP teachers of both the closed and functional schools on Saturday staged a demonstration in front of the NCLP office here.“We are paid peanuts compared to the job  we render. And this too is delayed. How can we survive under these circumstances,” asked Dilip Dakua, president of the NCLP Teachers Association. They submitted a memorandum in this regard to ADM Sundarlal Sil who said that payment of salaries had been pending as the NCLP office is yet to receive funds from the Ministry.Later, the teachers also met ITDA project administrator Rajendra Majhi who assured the teachers of the closed schools to re-engage them when new schools are opened elsewhere after a survey work by the Government.Sources said although the State Government was supposed to complete the survey work in three years, the same has not been started yet.
