Now, Sharmila too plans padayatra

Although the elections are more than one and a half years away, the political parties seem to be in an overdrive.

After Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu did a YSR by launching a padayatra across the state from Hindupur in Anantapur district on Oct 2, the YSR Congress (YSRC) is now contemplating a similar caper. Since YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been behind bars and the possibilities of his release on bail appear remote, YSRC has decided to request his sister, Sharmila, to undertake the padayatra to counter the influence of Chandrababu Naidu on the people.

“We want to ask Chandrababu Naidu why he is not moving a no confidence motion if he thinks the government is not delivering? Why should Naidu go to people instead of trying to pull the government down? We will ask people to think on these lines and arrive at an answer for themselves,” a YSRC senior leader said.

Sharmila’s padayatra will be discussed at the joint meeting of YSRC’s executive council and governing council on Wednesday. Though YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has approved of the padayatra, finer details are yet to be worked out as to when she should begin and what name should be given to the yatra and the distance she would travel.
