Okay with non-Hindus: Kerala temple
The temple priest Dinesan Namboothiripad says temple will allow the entry of non-Hindus if govt passes legislation.

New Delhi: The controversy over entry in Kerala’s Guruvayur Temple seems to be dying out with the Guruvayur Devaswom Board softening its stand over the entry of non-Hindus into the temple.

The tantri or the temple priest Dinesan Namboothiripad now says if the government brings in a legislation on this matter, the temple will allow the entry of non-Hindus.

The priest added he was only following rules when he conducted purification rituals at the temple after the visit of Overseas Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi's son.

“If public opinion is that people of all religions should be allowed inside the temple the tantri family will not oppose it,” says Namboothiripad.

The temple claims since Vayalar Ravi is married to a Christian, his son Ravikrishna cannot be considered a Hindu.

Ravikrishna had gone to the temple for his son's first-feeding ceremony. This was, in fact, the second time that a face-off has erupted between the Ravi family and the temple authorities.

Vayalar Ravi lashed out at the temple management over the controversy and said his family was contemplating legal action against the temple authorities over the issue.

"My wife is Christian, but I'm Hindu. I am a born Hindu. My children and grandchildren are born Hindus and they are all practicing Hindus," he declared.

A similar ritual was performed when Ravikrishna had visited the temple after his marriage seven years ago. "There was a similar controversy when my son got married in Gurvayoor. My caste was not allowed temple entry. We protested against it. This incident is shocking. My family is agitated," Ravi said.
