KANCHEEPURAM: A man was arrested by the police on Tuesday in connection with a 2.5 acre land fraud. In the first instance, K Veeraraghavan was arrested at Thirukazhukuntram Big Street for acquiring a property on survey number 66/1 in Kothimangalam village, Thirukazhukuntram taluk in his name for just `37,000.However, Superintendent of Police S Manoharan said the property was worth more than `10 lakh in the market. Veeraraghavan was produced before the Chengalpattu judicial magistrate and remanded to custody.Meanwhile, his brother Subramani (65) who assisted him in the criminal activities, was absconding.Similarly, the duo also purchased a 1.75 acre plot of land from a person, Ramesh for `82 lakh at an earlier date. But when the deal was closed, the brothers only paid up `12 lakh.Later, they forged a document to show that they had paid the remaining `70 lakh to Ramesh.This case was also opened up for further investigation by the police.
