THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is planning to defuse the crisis surfaced in his party and the UDF by rolling out a 100-day programme to set the development agenda for the next five years of his government. The UDF meeting the other day observed that the recent controversies over the Cabinet formation had tarnished the image of the government right from the beginning. Hence, the Chief Minister himself has decided to take up the responsibility for restoring the lost image of his government. The Chief Minister's Office is working hard to roll out a 100-day programme which would bring in several initiatives on priority basis. All the ministers will submit a draft of the 100-day programme to be rolled out by each department in the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. Sources said that a special Cabinet meeting would be convened later this week to finalise the action plan and the programmes would be declared by the Chief Minister after that. The 100-day do list of the government will focus on finetuning the government service delivery. Clearing the pending files, providing more power connections and extending drinking water facility to all, distributing Rs 1perkg rice for the BPL families from Onam, completing road works, improving basic infrastructural facilities in major towns, etc are likely to be the focus of the 100-day do list. The main idea of the 100-day programme will be to provide result oriented governance rather than giving just promises. The 100-day programme will be providing a platform for the development agenda of the UDF Government. At the behest of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, all the ministers will be giving special thrust to fulfilling the 100-day do list of their departments concerned. It is learnt that a special cell will be constituted in the Chief Minister's Office to monitor the 100-day programme. With the announcement of this programme, the Congress is also expected to overcome the present crisis. With more populist initiatives, the UDF is planning to give a clear message to the Opposition that the mandate given by the people is for a change in governance.
