A sum of over Rs 50 lakh was stolen from a Canara Bank branch in Bihar's Siwan district, police said on Monday. Thieves entered into the branch by removing grill of the ventilator on Sunday night and escaped with the cash kept in the almirah by cutting it with the help of gas cutter, Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Vivekanand said.

Branch manager Alok Kumar lodged an FIR on Monday in Gutni police station in the theft case, he said.
SDPO said the thieves failed to cut strong-room vault with the help of gas cutter and left only with the cash they could gather from the almirah. There was no guard on duty at the bank at the time of the theft, the SDPO added.
