Parents to be updated about their wards through SMS

Parents who are anxious all the time about their school-going children have a good news. They would get the details of the performance of their wards and their attendance on mobile phones through SMS. Information Kerala Mission (IKM), an e-governance programme of the government under the Department of Panchayats has developed a school management software to monitor the attendance and conduct of the students regularly, under its application software programme, Sanchaya.

As per the project, IKM will create the database of the entire students of the school comprising personal details, date of birth and admission number. In addition to this, the class teachers of all divisions would be allotted a login ID and password as they could login to the site and enter the attendance, examination marks of each student and other details. If anybody was found absent, an SMS will be automatically sent to the mobile phone number of the guardian, which is entered in the database.

In addition to this, the marks secured in class tests and other examinations also will be passed on to the guardians. The details of holidays, class hours scheduled for the next day also will be informed, said officials with the IMK.

Simply, all the information regarding the students and their school can be accessed by parents through this web-based system.

“We have developed this software after a request from Thonnakkal Government Higher Secondary School in Thiruvananthapuram run by the District Panchayat and will definitely submit this project to the government,” said IKM Executive Director and Chairman M Samsuddin. The extension of the programme and other decisions would be taken by the government. The idea behind the software is innovative and our first initiative was in a small module, he added.

A team of officials with IKM headquarters at Thiruvananthapuram developed the software technique. The software, installed in Thonnackal GHSS on September 8 is run as a pilot project.
