Pavitrotsavam begins in Tirumala

The three-day annual festival ‘Salakatla Pavitrotsavam’ commenced  at the Tirumala temple with the Homam being performed at Yagashala, inside the hill shrine on Sunday morning.

This ritual was followed by Snapana Tirumanjanam which lasted for about two hours, where the processional idols of Lord Malayappa swamy accompanied by his two consorts were given  a celestial bath comprising of sandal paste, turmeric, milk curds and honey.

In the evening the idols were taken out in a procession around Four Mada street. Devotees converged to witness the grandeur of Lord Malayappa adorned dazzling gold and diamond jewellery. TTD had cancelled arjitha sevas like kalyanotsavams, unjal seva, arjitha brahmotsavams, vasanthotsavams and sahasradeeplankara sevas in connection with this annual festival at Sri Vari temple. TTD board chairman K Bapiraju, executive officer LV Subramanyam, board member Muthyam Reddy, CVSO GVG Ashok Kumar and other temple officials took part in the festival.
