BANGALORE: The much-anticipated ‘Sammukha’, a face-to-face programme with people, kicked-off on Saturday by Mayor D Venkatesh Murthy. However, it ended with dissatisfaction as the residents were not happy with the replies given by the BBMP officials. For instance, Padmaja Rao, a resident of N R Colony, said that an eatery next to her house was creating problems. “The vendor washes his utensils near my home which is causing a lot of inconvenience to us. Repeated complaints to the BBMP health officers have proved futile. The officer claims that he is helpless,” she said. When the Mayor sought the official concerned to answer, the BBMP official said, “We seized the push cart of the vendor twice, but he is continuing the same.” The Mayor directed the official to be more responsive and find a permanent solution to the problem.About 100 citizens participated in the programme and gave their complaints on absence of proper streets lights, blockage of sewage lines, irregular water supply, pothole-filled roads, lack of parking facility, poor collection of garbage system etc. While the complaints from the citizens flooded, the replies and promises given by the Mayor, Basavanagudi constituency MLA Ravi Subramanya and other officers did not satisfy the people.Speaking at the meet Venkatesh Murthy said, “More than 100 applications were received. BBMP officers will inspect and solve  the issues in the next 15 days. Problems pertaining to various departments like BWSSB, BESCOM, BDA, BMTC, Forest, Revenue and others have been received. Sammukha meetings will be held once in every 15 days and each assembly constituency will involve MLAs, corporators and officials.” The Mayor further said that his aim was to decrease the number of complaints gradually.Joint Commissioner of BBMP (South) A B Hema Chandra said, “More than 50 officers took part in the meeting.  The applications received will be attended to in the next 15 days and a reply to the complainant on the action taken based on their complaint will be sent.” Also during the occasion, citizens were advised to crosscheck their voters’ list and were asked to contact their ward offices for further details. K Chandrashekhar, said, “About 48 percent of voters’ data with the Election Commission does not have photos of the voters. Citizens are asked to verify the same at the concerned people’s contact offices before June 5.”
