THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Wednesday saw various parties and organisations protesting against the UDF Government over the lack of facilities for Sabarimala pilgrims arriving in the city. The LDF members in the Corporation Council and the Sree Padmanabha Bhaktha Sabha staged dharnas in front of the Secretariat, while the BJP issued a press statement saying that the irresponsible attitude of the UDF Government in the matter was disappointing. Around 40 LDF councillors staged a sit-in, which began at 9.15 am in front of the Secretariat. They said that the Corporation was bearing the brunt of the public ire, which should actually be directed at the UDF Government. The statement from BJP said that the six BJP councillors in the Corporation, along with the Sree Padmanabha Bhakta Samithi members, had staged the dharna as the pilgrims from other states were reeling under difficulties in the city. BJP leaders said that the parking facility arranged on the Attukal temple premises is in fact amidst garbage and puddles of water. There are no facilities for more than 100 buses, no toilet facilities and rates in hotels are shocking.
