BIRMAHARAJPUR (SONEPUR) : It is eight years since the pipe water supply scheme under Swajal Dhara was taken up in Mursundhi village of Birmaharajpur block. The project has failed to provide even a drop of water and compounded the water crisis for nearly 3,000 people depending on it. There is little hope in sight for the completion of the project before summer peaks as pipes have gone missing and the stand post built to provide water has broken.The village is water-stressed throughout the year except during monsoon. Through all these years, the villagers have been running from pillar to post demanding drinking water but to no avail. Though a deep bore-well and pump house have been constructed on the banks of Hariharjoar it is yet to be made functional. All that the villagers now have is assurances while there is no sign of any relief.The situation in Birmaharajpur town is no different with stand posts vanishing. This has led to water scarcity in Sadar areas and no pipe water supply in particular slum pockets even as the officials stand as mute spectator. Executive Engineer, RWSS, BB Das claimed he was unaware of the people’s plight but promised that measures would be taken to ensure that they are provided with water at the earliest.
