Low-lying areas of the city went without water till Sunday evening on account of a pipeline-burst at Thampanoor on Saturday.
Water started trickling in through the pipes only by 4.30 pm, local people said. The pipeline carrying water from Vellayambalam to the low-lying areas had burst at Thampanoor, inside the railway station premises.
On Saturday, the district administration had issued a statement regarding the damage on the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) pipeline, but had not specified as to when the water supply would be restored.
Water supply to Fort, East Fort, Valiyasala, Valiyathura, Beemapally, Chalai, Manacaud, Attakulangara, Shangumugham and Kuriathy was disrupted, KWA officials said.
Saturday’s is the latest in a series of incidents where parts of the capital have been left without water owing to pipe-bursts. KWA officials said that the problem would be solved to a large extent once the works related to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-assisted water supply scheme were completed.
