BHUBANESWAR: The cut-off percentage for admission into Plus Two classes has soared past 92 for Science stream this year.The first cut-off list was announced by the Department of Higher Education (DHE) on Tuesday. According to the list, for Science stream, the cut-off percentage is 92.33 in BJB (Junior) College. Last year, the cut-off percentage stood at 91 which indicated a steady rise. Similarly, Ravenshaw Junior College saw 91.26 per cent as the cut-off marks for Science stream followed by Rama Devi Women’s College, Bhubaneswar, and FM Junior College, Balasore, at 85 per cent.For the Commerce stream, the cut-off level is 79.83 per cent (BJB Junior College) which is a tad lower than last year’s 80.43. In Ravenshaw Junior College, it stood at 75.67. For the Arts stream too, the cut-off level registered a marginal fall in BJB Junior College, considered the best. From 58.33 per cent in 2010-11, it has fallen to 58.17 this year. Elsewhere in GM Junior College, Sambalpur, it is higher at 58.9 per cent. The rising cut-off levels for Science stream have left the parents bewildered. “It indicates that students are scoring heavily which is a good sign but it also means a number of students will be denied admission despite being in the 90 per cent zone,” said Gautam Sarangi, father of a Class X student. The first list showed that cut-off percentage for Arts stream in Ravenshaw College stood at 56 per cent whereas in RD Women’s College, it is 48.3. At Sailabala Women’s College, cut-off levels for Science and Arts streams are pegged at 84 per cent and 56.35 per cent respectively. At GM Junior College, cut-off levels for Science and Commerce streams stand at 78.7 per cent and 42.67 per cent. Similarly, FM College recorded cut-off percentage at 55.5 and 56.67 for Arts and Commerce streams whereas Khallikote Junior College has Science stream cut-off at 84.67 per cent, Commerce at 67.33 per cent and Arts at 46.83 per cent. At Rajdhani College, Bhubaneswar, it is 83 per cent, 60.67 per cent and 40 per cent for Science, Commerce and Arts streams respectively. Admission of the first selection applicants will be held from August 1 to 5 and a day after, the merit list will be updated. The second selection list will be out on August 11.
