Jodhpur: Britain's Prince Charles visited Jodhpur in Rajasthan on Tuesday.
Accompanied by the former ruler of Jodhpur, Gaj Singh, Prince Charles toured villages on the outskirts of the city to observe water conservation efforts in the area.
He was briefed about the initiatives undertaken by a local voluntary group, the Jal Bhagirathi Foundation, for water harvesting and conservation.
The Water Resource Centre is used by the Jal Bhagirathi Foundation to train local people how to manage their water resources.
It is also the site of a 400-year-old rainwater pond, which uses traditional methods to collect and store water.
The foundation has helped give 300-thousand people in 220 villages access to drinking water.
One of the Prince's charities, the British Asian Trust, supports joint projects with the British NGO (non-governmental organisation), Wells for India, and the Jal Bhagirathi Foundation.
Villagers also showcased rural culture for the visiting prince, who joined them as they danced to the rhythm of local folk music.
The Prince of Wales was in India to inaugurate the Commonwealth Games that opened in New Delhi on Sunday.
With Queen Elizabeth II deciding not to attend the sporting event for the 71 countries and territories of the Commonwealth, the prince spoke on his mother's behalf at the opening ceremony of the CWG.
