Prompt action by police helped avoid a possible flare-up in Jattari town in Aligarh district, after animal flesh was found planted at a place of worship.
Following complaints from a group of residents, police took prompt action and prevented the situation from worsening. Police said an FIR had been filed against unnamed persons and investigations were on to trace the culprits.
Additional police forces have been deployed in Jattari, which is 20 km from Khair township, where tension had been simmering since a couple belonging to different communities tied the knot around two weeks back.
According to District Magistrate Rajiv Routela, strict vigil is being maintained ever since members of a particular caste held a Khap Panchayat demanding "boycott" of people belonging to the other community following the marriage.
Senior police officials intervened in the matter and the girl was sent to a shelter home for women in neighbouring Mathura district. She would be produced before the magistrate on September 13 for recording her statement, police said.
Routela said the matter was being addressed with the help from representatives of both communities.
