CHENNAI: Actor Rajnikanth on Friday called on Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and contributed `10 lakh towards the Thane relief fund.He had last met Jayalalithaa on August 23, 2010 to invite her for daughter Soundarya’s wedding.Responding to queries from journalists after the 10-minute meeting at the Secretariat, Rajnikanth said: “I met the CM for the first time after my recovery and contributed Rs 10 lakh to the relief works.”Asked about his message for his fans, the actor said: “I will be back on screen very soon.” He is about to begin shooting for his next film Kochchadaiyaan to be directed by daughter Soundarya Ashwin.Immediately after the AIADMK got a massive mandate on May 13, 2011, Rajinikanth sent a letter greeting Jayalalithaa. Thanking the actor, Jayalalithaa replied to him on the same day wishing him speedy recovery.When he was admitted to Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Porur, Jayalalithaa called up his wife Latha and enquired about his health.Meanwhile, contributions to the Thane relief fund crossed Rs 52 crore. Those who extended contributions on Friday included M A M Ramasamy, Pro Chancellor of Annamalai University and chairman of Chettinad Group and his son, M A M R Muthiah (on behalf of Chettinad Group - Rs 1 crore), M Ramanathan, V-C, Annamalai University (on behalf of the teachers and staff of the university - `1.08 crore), V G Santosam, chairman of VGP Group (Rs 10 lakh), Coimbatore Mayor S M Velusamy (on behalf of the employees of the corporation and his own behalf - Rs 27.44 lakh), Sellur K Raju, Minister for Cooperation (one behalf of employees of the cooperation department - Rs 5.59 crore), K P Munusamy, Rural Development Minister (on behalf of the employees of his department - `4.98 crore) and Natham R Viswanathan, Minister for Electricity (on behalf of the employees of his department and also The Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (TASMAC - Rs 7.15 crore.
