Raksha Bandhan, also popularly known as Rakhi falls on August 7 this year. It is a festival celebrated on the full moon day according to the Hindu Calendar, during the monsoons (usually August), in India as well as Nepal.
Rakhi 2017 is special as Lunar Eclipse will also be seen on Monday, after 9 years on the same day.
Raksha Bandhan not only marks the celebration of the unique love and responsibility between brothers and sisters or the affirmation of family ties, but also signifies relationship between men and women that have a similar feeling even when they aren’t biologically related.
As the legend goes, while setting off his Sudarshan Chakra to fight evil, Lord Krishna hurt his finger and at that time Draupadi tore a piece of cloth from her sari and tied it around Krishna’s finger and in return Krishna pledged to protect her against all troubles in future.
On this day, the sister ties a Rakhi (thread) on her brother’s wrist praying for his well being and in turn the brother vows to protect his sister from any trouble that comes her way and gifts her a loving present.
According to the astrologers, the lunar eclipse or Chandra grahan will take place from 10:33PM IST on Monday night till 12:48AM. Bhadra Kaal will be observed till 11:04 AM and Sootak will start at 1:40PM in the afternoon on Monday.
According to Hindu Mythology, Rakhi must not be tied during Sootak and Bhadra Kaal, thereby Rakhi must be avoided during these times on Monday. The best time to tie rakhi on Raksha Bandhan 2017 is between 11:30AM to 1:39PM.
Make this Raksha Bandhan special for your sister, gift her something that she had been long searching for, go for a lunch or dinner together or take her on a shopping spree, discounts are raining everywhere.
Have an amazing Rakhi!
