Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S Ramadoss on Tuesday lambasted DMK chief M Karunanidhi for his silence over the granite scam.
Talking to reporters here, Ramadoss said that while the DMK patriarch listed the smallest of crimes reported in the state in his party organ Murasoli, he maintained a stoic silence on the issue of illegal quarrying of granite in Madurai. “So far, he hasn’t sought any action in the case,” he pointed out.
Replying to a question on whether Karunanidhi’s silence had anything to do with the alleged involvement of his relatives and party members, he said that it might be the reason. Claiming to have been the first one to make a statement on then Madurai collector Sagayam’s report on illegal quarrying, Ramadoss said, “It is estimated that the total value of the granite scam would be around `2 lakh crore.”
Alleging that some former and incumbent ministers of both the Dravidian parties were involved in the scam, he demanded a CBI enquiry into the case. The PMK leader did not spare even the UPA Government, slamming it for inaction over the Cauvery row. “The Union Government is shying away from its responsibility in the Cauvery water dispute,” he said The PMK founder also criticised the Centre for trying to sell 5 per cent stake in NLC.
Demanding a white paper on the percentage of OBCs in recruitments made by the UPSC, he noted that it had come down from 5.3 per cent to 5 per cent even after the implementation of 27 per cent reservation for OBCs.
