RCU drops 2 controversial lessons

BELGAUM: Belgaum-based Rani Channamma University (RCU) has withdrawn two controversial lessons from a text book prescribed for BA I (second semester) as these lessons had come in for criticism from Hindu and Muslim organisations.RCU Vice-Chancellor B R Ananthan told Express here on Friday that two lessons - one written by Basavaraj Sabarad and another by L S Shastri have been dropped from the syllabus. The Vice-Chancellor said that a circular will be sent to all the colleges affiliated to the RCU, instructing them not to include in the syllabus or teach these lessons.The V-C said that the decision was taken on Friday in consultation with the RCU syndicate members and eminent personalities in the district. It may be recalled that several Hindu and Muslim organisations had submitted memorandums to the Vice-Chancellor. They  demanding to withdraw the controversial lessons as it was feared that they could create communal disharmony. and aggravate the matter.
