BANGALORE: A police head constable of the Byappanahalli police station caught a thief, accused of trying to break into an apartment, despite having sustained head injury after he was hit by a big stone on Friday.Ninge Gowda, the head constable along with a constable, Mahesh, were checking vehicles near the Benniganhalli railway bridge when three security guards from a nearby apartment came chasing two thieves who had tried to enter an apartment.The guards on noticing the police alerted them. Gowda and Mahesh tried to catch the duo when one of the thieves who had a big stone hit Gowda.The constable who had sustained serious head injuries, still managed to hold on to one of the thieves. On shouting for assistance bystanders came to Gowda's help. However, the other accused, who was being chased by Mahesh, managed to escape, said the Byappanahalli police.The accused, who had attacked Gowda and who has been nabbed, has been identified as Mohammed Wasim (24), a resident of Mysore Road. Wasim is said to be a professional thief. The police are on the look out for his associate, who managed to escape.Meanwhile, Gowda, who was provided first aid at a nearby hospital, is undergoing treatment at K R Hospital in Hanumanthanagar.
