New Delhi: Just days after shocking reports of molestation and eve-teasing poured in from across the country, two girls hailing from Manipur were allegedly molested and threatened by about 25 inebriated men near Delhi University on Saturday.
PTI reports the incident took place at a cyber cafe owned by one of the girls in north Delhi's Gandhi Vihar locality at around 2100 hrs (IST).
The girls, who are sisters, alleged that a crowd of about 25 men came to the shop and started abusing them verbally and also attacked them and their brother.
The incident was reportedly sparked off by a provocative remark by one of the men who questioned the “morality of girls hailing from Northeast.”
The youths, threatened to burn the shop, said women from the Northeast must leave Delhi, the sisters claimed.
A senior police official told PTI the chain of events started around 1930 hrs (IST) when the 18-year-old girl, the younger of the two, went to a nearby market to buy vegetables. Two men on a motorcycle allegedly passed remarks and tried to molest her. The girl resisted their attempts and narrated the incident to her elder sister.
Half an hour later, two youth came to their cyber café and entered into a heated argument with them. The girls claimed that the men also beat them up before leaving the spot.
Meanwhile, police in Gurgaon arrested three NRIs for allegedly attempting to molest a woman in a shopping mall.
The men allegedly touched the woman and then beat up her pilot husband when he intervened.
Police have registered a case of attempted molestation. Three of the arrested men study in Holland.
