Russia plans to send investigators to Britain to probe into former security agent Alexander Litvinenko's poisoning death.

Moscow: Russia plans to send investigators to Britain in connection with the probe into former security agent Alexander Litvinenko's death, the chief prosecutor's office said on Saturday.

A spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General's office said there were plans to send investigators but it was unclear when they would make the trip. She said she was not authorised to give her name to media outlets.

Litvinenko died in London on November 23 after being poisoned with a rare radioactive substance. In deathbed accusations, he blamed President Vladimir Putin for the poisoning—allegations the Kremlin has vehemently denied.

The spokeswoman did not say whether Russian authorities wanted to question anyone in particular in London or give any details.

Traveling to Britain, however, would put Russian prosecutors closer to fierce Kremlin opponents who are wanted in Russia on charges that are politically motivated and who have been given asylum in Britain—including Litvinenko associate Boris Berezovsky and Chechen rebel envoy Akhmed Zakayev.
