Mumbai: After Mumbai's Siddhivinayak temple, the Sai Baba Temple at Shirdi has now imposed restrictions on what devotees can carry inside the temple.
The temple authorities said the security has been beefed up due to a threat perception. The move came a day after security was tightened at Mumbai's famous Siddhivinayak temple with devotees barred from offering garlands and coconuts at the shrine.
Additional Superintendent of Police Shrikant Pathak said a total of 112 armed police personnel are guarding the temple. No decision has been taken on banning the offering of flowers and coconuts to Sai Baba though all such offerings are being thoroughly checked.
Thousands of people visit the temple everyday.
On Sunday, the Siddhivinayak temple had barred mobile phones and other electronic equipment inside the temple premises. Restrictions have also been imposed on carrying flowers and coconuts.
Last month, five bullets were found inside the temple's donation box and this is being seen as the reason for the increased security. But temple authorities have not made any arrangements for people to deposit their belongings outside the temple.
Devotees say they are willing to cooperate with the authorities, but they should not be inconvenienced.
