A week after the firing outside the Bollywood superstar’s home — Galaxy Apartments — in Bandra, Salman Khan’s security was reviewed and upgraded on Thursday, Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar told CNN-News18.
Additionally, Phansalkar said that personnel in the security convoy will carry two automatic guns. He further said that the security audit of Khan’s family currently taking place.
Several reports had earlier indicated that the firing plan was hatched in the United States where Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother Anmol Bishnoi, gave the task of selecting shooters to US-based gangster Rohit Godara. Police had said that Godara had a vast network of professional shooters across India.
Top Mumbai Police sources told News18 that gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang is behind the firing and the attack was carried out by Rohit Godara, who operates the Bishnoi gang in Rajasthan.
Confirming that the threat is linked to the Bishnoi gang, the Mumbai Police commissioner told CNN-News18, “We are substantiating it with evidences”. He further said that their teams have found where the weapon is and noted that some progress would take place soon, hopefully.
Notably, the weapon was disposed of in Gujarat’s Surat and police teams are currently at the location, trying to find the firing weapon.
The deployment of cops outside Galaxy Apartments was increased on Sunday. Khan, earlier had two PSOs, two commandos, two escort vehicles and 11 cops under the Y+ category security accorded to him. However, three cops and one PSO were added to this convoy.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde met the Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor at his residence on Tuesday. He assured Khan and his family of their safety and informed them that their security had been increased.
Police will take stringent action in the Salman Khan firing case, CM Shinde had said after the meeting.
