They defeated the Australian duo of Anastasia Rodionova and Stephen Huss.

Melbourne: Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi stormed into the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles with a straight set victory while Yuki Bhambri had to sweat it out to register his place in the second round of the junior boys singles event at the Australian Open on Sunday.

The unseeded Sania-Bhupathi pair thrashed Australian duo of Anastasia Rodionova and Stephen Huss 6-1 6-2 in 54 minutes to set up a last eight clash against the winners of the match between Canadian pair of Aleksandra Wozniak and Daniel Nestor and second seed Chinese-Bahamian duo of Zi Yan and Mark Knowles.

Meanwhile, top seed Yuki survived early scares to pull off the marathon opener against unseeded German Sanchez Delfin of Mexico 4-6 6-1 8-6.

The Indian pair of Sania and Bhupathi displayed were in their game on Sunday against the crowd favourites Rodionova and Huss as they took just 23 minutes to pocket the opening set.

The Australian pair did try to force their way back into the match but Sania and Bhupathi were in no mood to give an inch to their rivals and pocketed the second set and the match 6-2 in just 31 minutes.

The Indians dominance in the match can be ascertained from the fact that Sania and Bhupathi converted 57 per cent of their break points as against their rivals none.

The other Indian in the fray, veteran Leander Paes and his partner Cara Black of Zimbabwe will open their campaign against Serbian duo of Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Nenad Zimonjic.

If the top seeded Indo-Zimbabwean pair gets past the opening hurdle, they will face Patty Schnyder of Switzerland and Wesley Moodie of South Africa, who defeated Russian-Brazilian combination of Alisa Kleybanova and Bruno Soares 6-3 6-4 in the first round.
