The Utsava which is spread across three days will have children, youth, elders, scholars and the general public participating. The utsava is being jointly organised by DG Vaishnav College and Samskrita Bharathi to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.The first day of the utsava which is titled the Balotsava, catered to children. The day witnessed a host of competitions for school children. Students from over 70 schools in the city took part in the event.R Ramachandran, State Secretary, Samskrita Bharathi added that students from LKG to XIIth std took part in the first day of the utsava.The first day of the utsava also witnessed lectures by Vijayalakshmi, producer, Doordarshan, Balasubramanyam, director, Mangal Tirth Estate and R Krishnamurthy Sastrigal, former principal, Madras Sanskrit College. They all spoke about how such initiatives were contributive to Indian culture.Ramachandran explained that the second day of the utsava is titled Samajotsava, that will witness the participation of famous scholars.“Tamil scholars like Solomon Pappaiah, VV Subramaniam, Tirupur Sri Krishnan  will speak on how Tamil has contributed to the growth of Sanskrit and Sanskrit scholars like TN Aravamudam and L Kumaraswamy will speak on the essence of Sanskrit as well,” he added.L Kumaraswamy, head of the department, Sanskrit, DG Vaishnav College said that the college has an unsigned MOU with Samskrita Bharathi to organise initiatives like this.The Samskritostava will conclude on August 20.first published:August 20, 2012, 09:42 ISTlast updated:August 20, 2012, 09:42 IST
