Second-gen iPad Mini to have a Retina display: Report
Apple's second-generation iPad Mini is expected to have a Retina display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels.

New Delhi: If you are one of those Apple fanboys displeased with the not-so-good display of the iPad Mini tablet, then we suggest you to wait for the second-generation model as it is likely to come with a Retina display.

According to a report from Slashgear, Apple has chosen AU Optronics, one of Apple's suppliers of 1024 x 768 panels for the iPad mini, to build a Retina display for the next-gen iPad mini, which is said to have a pixel density of 324 ppi.

The company is expected to begin mass production of 2048 x 1536 resolution 7.9-inch displays by the second half of 2013, reported Slashgear, adding, "The second-gen iPad mini isn't expected to ship until Q4 2013."

The iPad Mini's 1024 x 768 resolution was a big step backwards from the iPad's much-touted Retina display, and underperformed the rival Kindle and Nexus, the two reviewers agreed.

The iPad Mini doesn't have a Retina screen. By the standards of last year, it's a good screen, with the same number of pixels as the first iPad and the iPad 2. The latest full-size iPad has four times as many pixels, and it really shows. By comparison, the iPad Mini's screen looks coarse. It looks dull, too, because it doesn't have the same color-boosting technology that the full-size model has.

The display causes a few other problems, too. One is that when you run iPhone apps on the Mini, it uses the coarsest version of the graphics for that app - the version designed for iPhones up to the 2009 model, the 3GS. You can blow the app up to fill more of the screen, but it looks pretty ugly. Some apps adapted for the iPad screen don't display that well on the Mini screen, either, because of the smaller size.

What's your reaction?
