Srinagar: Security forces were put on alert in view of the general strike called by breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) chairman on Monday in protest against alleged attack by communal forces in Jammu region.
Alleging that whatever was happening in Jammu was being directed by people in New Delhi, Mr Geelani appealed to people of Rajouri, Poonch, Jammu and Doda to observe the strike on Monday.
The authorities have directed the security forces to remain alert to foil any attempt by miscreants to disturb the law and order in the valley.
The district commissioner has blacked out telecast of TV channels in the entire Jammu region.
Meanwhile, the violence over the Amarnath shrine land transfer row is raising concern in Delhi.
A worried Congress president Sonia Gandhi telephoned BJP president Rajnath Singh to try and find a solution. It follows the recent meeting between Opposition leader L K Advani and PM Manmohan Singh on this issue .
