In a tragic incident, a man was allegedly attacked and killed by a male lion in Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park (SV Zoo Park) in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased, Prahlad Guljar, who is said to be in an inebriated condition, entered the enclosure exclusively meant for lions to take selfies.
These enclosures are the places from where the zoo authorities provide food to the animals. Guljar reportedly crossed the last gate to reach the wild animal and a male lion tried to attack him.
To save his life, he climbed a nearby tree, but out of fear, he fell from the tree, and within minutes the lion attacked him. The lion pulled him up with the help of his shirt and trousers and attacked his neck.
Visitors at the zoo panicked after witnessing the incident and were asked to evacuate. Police also rushed to the spot and registered a case. Investigations are ongoing to understand the circumstances of the tragedy. No one was allowed to enter the place after the incident happened.
According to the park’s authorities, there are separate enclosures for wild animals including lions, and tigers to avoid any untoward incident.
But to have a selfie with the lion, overenthusiastic Prahlad entered its enclosure by defying all rules and regulations and met with a tragic end, said locals.
