BHUBANESWAR: What police and excise sleuths have failed to do, slum-dwellers of the city have taken upon themselves to achieve. Troubled by alcoholism and addiction to drugs, dwellers of three slums in the Airfield area have decided to sensitise locals to kick the habits. The inhabitants of Kargil, Airfield and Kela slums on Saturday took out a rally. Led by women members, the rallyists went from door to door to make people aware of not only about shunning the addiction but also take on the peddlers. “We don’t know how the illicit liquor and drugs find their way into the slums but a large number of inhabitants are wasting their hard-earned money and resources. Besides, family violence and abuse is on the rise too,” local corporator HB Samantray said. The slum-dwellers, women in particular, have decided that they will continue the campaign against alcohol and drugs.
