BANGALORE: After many complaints, a bumpy ride and one odd broken car bumpers the BBMP has finally take notice of the road in front of ISRO Colony near Cambridge Layout. The road that was riddled with deep crater-like potholes may soon be a smooth pothole-free stretch if the BBMP chief engineer East, Somashekhar’s word is to be taken. The chief engineer inspected and visited the area on Monday after City Express published a report on July 25, ‘How long before BBMP fixes the road’ stating the inconvenience caused to the commuters and residents of the area alike.Though the stretch is only a few metres in length, it is intriguing to note the number of problems it has. The broken road being just one of the many problems. “There are two main problems that plague this particular stretch of road. One is the absence of drain facility and the other is unauthorised dumping of construction debris,” said the chief engineer. It is only near the ISRO Colony compound that the rain water drain is missing. The engineer assured that within a month’s time the existing problems will be fixed.“We have given the proposal to construct a culvert across ISRO Colony. Construction of a drain near the colony’s compound and ashpalting the entire stretch is also on the cards. The new drain that will be constructed will then be linked to the drain further down the road near Cambridge and on the other side towards Indiranagar 1st Main Road, so that rain water flows smoothly without any disruptions,” he informed. However, all this work might take some time as the tender is yet to be called. For the time being the engineer said that he will ensure that the potholes are filled with jelly and quarry dust. “This will give some relief to the commuters. I have also instructed that gang men (BBMP workers) be deployed in the area at night to ensure that no debris is dumped there. We had cleared the area a couple of months ago, however as the stretch is pretty isolated when compared to main roads, some miscreants have dumped the waste there again. I got the area cleared as of Monday and will see to it that it is maintained as it is. All the problems will be sorted out within 30 days,” he said.
