New Delhi Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee has turned down Leader of the Opposition LK Advani's request that all documents pertaining to the Volcker Report obtained from United Nations be tabled in Parliament.
He also adjourned the Lok Sabha till 1400 hrs (IST).
The Speaker explained that an official inquiry had been instituted and since a debate had already been allowed in the Parliament, Advani could not force the government to part with the documents.
On Sunday, BJP spokesperson VK Malhotra had said that the Opposition NDA will not seek the suspension of the question hour but will demand tabling of all papers related to the Iraq oil-for-food programme.
UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi had met on Sunday senior Congress leaders to discuss the strategy the party will take in dealing with the Opposition.
