CHENNAI: The 13 Sri Lankan inmates in the special camp at Chengelpet, who had been on a hunger strike for the past eight days demanding their release, alleged that police officials had threatened them and their family members to stop the strike.
The inmates alleged that officials of the Q Branch had threatened them and their family members that the inmates would be lodged in Puzhal prison if they did not end the hunger strike. "We are here for more than two years and a chargesheet had not been filed against some of us. Cases have been foisted against us. When the officials threatened us, we said we would commit suicide. They also called up our house and threatened them to convince us to end the strike," said an inmate. The inmates claimed that the Chengelpet RDO, during a visit, had mentioned that he had written about them to the government. "Some of the inmates did not join us in the strike as they were threatened by the police officials," an inmate said.
