It’s not very often that stand up nights get over-the-top wild in Chennai. However, at the recently held Kingfisher Comedy Nights at The Park, a packed house of the city’s elite just couldn’t bring themselves to stop laughing.
Comic riot Shazia Mirza may have been brash, blasphemous and to some people — downright offensive, but she did bring the house down with her infectious sense of humour.
How often do you get a British-Pakistani in India tell you she’s so virgin that she plans to set up a Facebook page for the same. Then add for effect, ‘Just to see how many pokes I get.’
Chennai’s own Cary Edwards was also in his element. Hilarious impressions, a tap dance lesson (just pretend you’re in dog shit) and tips for men on how to sound sexy in bed were all rolled in one fun 30-minute set.
However, the jokes may have been more relatable had they encompassed a less cosmolitan Indian male a little more. Also a bag of laughs was the event’s organiser, Ajit Saldanha, who played opening act for both comedians.
