An all women ‘Celebrity Play off’ tournament was recently organised at EMAAR MGF Boulder Hills Golf Club in the city to spread awareness about the two most prevalent cancers amongst women — breast and cervical cancers. An initiative by Cancer Crusaders of CURE Foundation to celebrate the World Women’s week, the event witnessed women from all walks of life participate in playing golf. Celebrity participants included D K Aruna, minister, Information and Public Relations, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh; Katherine Dhanani, consul general, Consulate General of the United States of America, Hyderabad; Tejdeep Kaur Menon, IPS (RR), Addl. director general of police; Yogita Rana, IAS, deputy commissioner, Commercial Tax, Kakinada; Shobana Kamineni, director - new initiatives, Apollo Hospital Enterprises Ltd.; Dr Shashi Reddy; fitness trainer Dinaz Vervatwala; former Mrs India Shilpa Reddy; enterpreneur Ajita Reddy; actoress Samantha and Supriya Shailaja and pop singer Smitha. According to Dr Vijay Anand Reddy, founder, CURE Foundation and director, Apollo Cancer Hospital, there has been a rampant increase in the incidence of breast cancers amongst urban women and cervical cancer amongst rural women. That’s why they decided to spread awareness about these diseases by concluding the Cancer Crusaders Invitation Cup - 2012’ with an all women ‘Celebrity Play off.’
