BANGALORE: Stempeutics Research, a city-based research institute has started the development of an innovative point-of-care, fully automated stem cell isolation device named ‘Stempeutron’. The device aims to obtain a population of cells, collectively known as the stromal vascular fraction (SVF) from fat tissue. SVF cells have significant potential in plastic and reconstructive surgery applications such as soft tissue augmentation for post mastectomy breast reconstruction, facial restructuring, deformity correction, scar and wrinkle reduction.Mid to large-sized hospitals and clinics in India that perform such surgeries will be the market for the proposed SVF isolation device. Stempeutron will be the first device to be developed indigenously, complying with international regulatory standards.
