Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee demanded that the acquisition of land must be stopped everywhere, including in Singur.

New Delhi: After West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee agreed to a phased withdrawal of police from Nandigram, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Saturday demanded that the acquisition of land must be stopped everywhere, including in Singur.

"Only a verbal assurance will not do, all notices will have to be withdrawn legally. The Chief Minister had earlier said that the notice should be scrapped in Nandigram, but even after that genocide has taken place there," PTI quoted Banerjee as saying.

She also claimed that the state government was not capable of doing this.

Criticising Buddhadeb Banerjee said: "We want the immediate arrest of the chief minister. People do not trust him. We don't treat him as a chief minister, but as a killer."

Banerjee demanded that the search for bodies of those who died in Nandigram should be stepped up and the injured should be given medical care.

"Some injured persons must be lying here and there, and they might be alive," Banerjee said.

Claiming that concerted efforts were being made to remove all evidence of the police firing in Nandigram, she alleged that many bodies were buried.

Talking about the demand for Central intervention into the Nandigram incident, Banerjee said, "I don't know what the compulsion of the Centre is. But the Centre can do one thing, it can ensure that farm land is not acquired as President A P J Abdul Kalam has said."
